Virginia Softball, Lacrosse Advance in NCAA Tournament
The University of North Florida (UNF) softball team secured their first-ever NCAA Tournament bid by winning the ASUN Championship and will compete as the No. 3 seed in the Columbia Regional against No. 2 seed Virginia. The regional, hosted by No. 8 national seed South Carolina, also features Elon, with the tournament games scheduled from May 16-18. Meanwhile, Virginia's women's lacrosse team, ranked No. 5 nationally and the top seed in the Charlottesville regional, advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament after a decisive win over LIU and is set to face ACC rival Duke, whom they previously defeated during the regular season. Virginia's lacrosse team boasts standout players like Kate Galica, a second team All-American and ACC leader in draw controls, and Madison Alaimo, the team's top scorer. Additionally, Virginia Tech softball, seeded No. 3 in the ACC Tournament, is preparing to face No. 2 seed Clemson in the semifinals, with live coverage available on ACC Network and ESPN platforms. These developments highlight strong postseason appearances for Virginia and other collegiate softball and lacrosse programs in the region.
