Delhi LG Criticizes Government Over CAG Reports Delay

Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena has criticized the AAP-led Delhi government for delaying the tabling of 11 Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) reports in the Delhi Assembly, describing it as a 'clear violation' of constitutional obligations. In a letter to Assembly Speaker Ram Niwas Goel, Saxena highlighted the 'gross dereliction' of duty by the government, emphasizing that some reports have been pending since 2022 and cover crucial issues like state finances and pollution regulation. Notably, the report on the regulation and supply of liquor has become particularly contentious due to the controversies surrounding the scrapped excise policy. Saxena urged the Speaker to ensure the reports are presented in the next assembly session, arguing that the delay undermines democratic accountability and legislative scrutiny. The Congress party has also criticized the AAP government over this issue, reinforcing the call for transparency. Despite the LG's concerns, Speaker Goel questioned the appropriateness of Saxena's letter, suggesting it should have been directed to those responsible for the tabling process.
