Multiple US Shelters Offer Free Pet Adoptions August-September

Several animal shelters across the U.S. are participating in pet adoption campaigns this August and September, offering waived or reduced adoption fees to encourage finding homes for animals. The Spokane Humane Society is joining the ASPCA's Rescue Effect campaign with select days of free or reduced adoption fees, while the Lake County Animal Shelter is waiving fees through August 31 as part of NBCUniversal's Clear the Shelters initiative, aiming to surpass last year's adoption numbers. Similarly, the Brown County Humane Society in Texas is providing free adoptions throughout August with additional benefits like spaying/neutering and vaccinations. Minneapolis Animal Care and Control, supported by a $13,300 ASPCA grant, is holding free adoption events every Wednesday through September, also waiving pet license fees for residents. These efforts respond to rising shelter intakes, with Minneapolis reporting a doubling of pet surrenders between 2021 and 2024 and recent rescues from cruelty investigations elsewhere. The campaigns emphasize community involvement not only through adoption but also donations, volunteering, fostering, and spreading awareness to aid animal welfare.
