Baylor Adds Former Virginia Coach Ron Sanchez as Associate Head Coach for 2025-26
Ron Sanchez has been hired as the associate head coach for Baylor men's basketball for the 2025-26 season, joining Head Coach Scott Drew's staff. Sanchez, a 29-year coaching veteran, most recently served as the interim head coach for the Virginia Cavaliers during the 2024-25 season after Tony Bennett's sudden retirement, leading Virginia to a 15-17 record. He previously spent 11 years as an assistant and associate head coach at Virginia, contributing to multiple ACC titles and NCAA tournament appearances, and also served as head coach at Charlotte from 2018 to 2023, where he led the team to a College Basketball Invitational championship in 2023. Known for his defensive coaching prowess, Sanchez helped develop top-10 nationally ranked defenses at Virginia and Washington State over his career. Baylor's Scott Drew praised Sanchez as a great fit who brings championship experience and a strong coaching culture to the program. Sanchez's addition strengthens Baylor’s coaching staff with his extensive head coaching and defensive expertise.
