Lucy Letby Appeal Seeks to Reopen Based on New Evidence

Lucy Letby's lawyer, Mark McDonald, is seeking to reopen her appeal after the prosecution's leading expert, Dr. Dewi Evans, revised his opinion on the cause of death of three babies, undermining the reliability of his testimony. Letby is serving life sentences for the murder of seven newborns and attempted murder of seven others at the Countess of Chester Hospital. The defense argues that Dr. Evans' change of opinion casts doubt on the safety of all convictions, and new reports from neonatologists Dr. Neil Aiton and Dr. Silvena Dimitrova suggest that two of the deaths were due to medical complications, not deliberate harm. The Court of Appeal has previously rejected Letby's applications to appeal her convictions, and the Crown Prosecution Service has not yet responded to these new claims.
