Qantas Begins Free Mercy Flights from Lebanon

Qantas has initiated two free mercy flights to assist Australians fleeing Lebanon due to escalating conflict, with the first Dreamliner departing Sydney for Cyprus on October 7, 2024. These flights, organized in coordination with the Australian government, will transport passengers from Lebanon to Larnaca, Cyprus, before returning to Sydney. The flights will carry up to 440 Australians home, with the first flight expected to land in Sydney on October 8, 2024, and the second on October 9, 2024. Qantas is not charging the government or passengers for these flights, and the initiative includes support from Australian Red Cross, providing comfort items and psychological aid. The Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is managing registrations for those wishing to leave Lebanon and advises immediate departure due to the uncertain situation. Qantas is also ensuring that affected international travelers are contacted for alternative arrangements.
