Humane to Cease AI Pin Operations February 28

AI hardware startup Humane has announced its acquisition by HP for $116 million, leading to the shutdown of its AI Pin devices on February 28, 2025. Customers will lose access to all features of their AI Pins, including calling, messaging, and cloud access, effectively rendering the devices useless. Humane is advising users to download any stored data before the shutdown, as the company will permanently delete all customer data. This follows a disappointing reception of the AI Pin, which was intended as a smartphone replacement but received significant criticism. HP plans to use the technology and talent from Humane to form a new AI innovation lab, HP IQ, aimed at developing future AI-integrated devices. The deal is expected to close later this month, with Humane's co-founders joining HP's new team.
