Des Moines Airport Sets Second Passenger Record

Des Moines International Airport has reported a record-breaking 3,176,952 passengers in 2024, marking a 2.6% increase from the previous year. This achievement underscores a resurgence in air travel following a three-year decline due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite facing significant disruptions, including severe snowstorms that canceled over 100 flights and ongoing construction of a new terminal, passenger numbers have continued to rise. The airport is set to expand its service with three new nonstop flights to Boston, Jacksonville, and Philadelphia this summer, bringing the total number of nonstop destinations to 33. Airport officials attribute the growth to strong demand for air travel in Central Iowa and emphasize the need for modern facilities to accommodate increasing passenger traffic. Looking ahead, Allegiant Air is also restoring a direct flight to Philadelphia, further enhancing service options for travelers.
