Massachusetts State Police Recruit Dies During Training

Enrique Delgado-Garcia, a 25-year-old recruit of the Massachusetts State Police, tragically died after suffering a medical emergency during a defensive tactics training exercise at the academy. He became unresponsive while participating in the exercise and despite immediate medical attention, he passed away at UMass Memorial Medical Center. In a poignant turn of events, he was sworn in as a trooper just hours before his death, surrounded by family and classmates, culminating in a badge-pinning ceremony. Delgado-Garcia had been part of the 90th Recruit Training Troop since April and was set to graduate on October 9. The Worcester County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the incident, while colleagues and the state police community express their deep sorrow at the loss of a dedicated individual. Col. John E. Mawn Jr. praised him as a compassionate and committed young man who aspired to serve others.
