The show's narrative follows Ruth Landry, played by Margo Martindale, as she plots to steal syrup from the bureaucratic kingpins controlling her farm's supply, highlighting themes of class struggle and the tension between producers and regulators. While the series is a comedic take on the heist, it is not an accurate retelling, focusing instead on fictionalized characters and events. The QMSP's controversial regulations, aiming to stabilize prices in the syrup market, have contributed to a black market, which some producers, including the heist's alleged ringleader Richard Vallières, have exploited. 'The Sticky' aims to present a unique view of Quebec's maple syrup industry, steering away from typical Canadian stereotypes and showcasing a darker narrative.
