Rockingham Speedway Listed for Sale Weeks After NASCAR Return
Rockingham Speedway, a historic NASCAR track in North Carolina, has been listed for sale by CBRE Group just weeks after NASCAR's return to the venue with the Craftsman Truck Series and Xfinity Series races. The track, owned by Dan Lovenheim since 2018, underwent a $12 million refurbishment funded largely by state grants to upgrade facilities and infrastructure, including repaving the main track and modernizing amenities. Despite these improvements, the NASCAR Cup Series has not returned since 2004, although there is hope and a request for additional funding to make the track 'Cup ready' for a potential return in 2026 or 2027. Lovenheim stated that the track has been developed as much as possible under current ownership and is now ready to be passed to new hands capable of further advancement. The listing highlights the track’s rich history and its recent resurgence, but questions remain about the viability of securing a Cup Series race in the near future. Over 250 acres of property come with the sale, and the track's future will likely depend on new investment and NASCAR’s scheduling decisions.
