Jean Smart Urges Award Show Cancellations Amid Fires

Amid the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles, actress Jean Smart has urged TV networks to cancel airing upcoming award shows and donate the revenue to fire victims and firefighters. Smart made this plea via Instagram, particularly during the award season when events like the Academy Awards, Critics Choice Awards, and SAG Awards are typically broadcast. Major events have already been impacted, with the Critics Choice Awards postponed and the SAG Awards cancelling their live nominations announcement due to the fires. The wildfires, fueled by strong Santa Ana winds, have resulted in five fatalities, the destruction of over 2,000 structures, and the evacuation of over 100,000 residents. Several celebrities, including Anna Faris and Paris Hilton, have lost their homes. In response, Governor Gavin Newsom declared a state of emergency and FEMA is providing resources for fire suppression efforts.
