Bristol City Coach Lauren Smith Resigns

Lauren Smith has resigned as head coach of Bristol City Women just 12 days before the start of the Women's Championship season. Smith, who took charge in 2021 and led the team to a Championship title and promotion to the Women's Super League, cited the need to explore new opportunities as her reason for leaving. Despite signing a three-year contract in August 2023, the club's relegation last season and significant player departures have contributed to a tumultuous environment. Interim head coach Loren Dykes will take over as the club searches for a permanent replacement. Bristol City chairman Gavin Marshall expressed gratitude for Smith's contributions, highlighting her commitment to the team. The season opener is scheduled for September 8 against Southampton.
