Katy Youth Coach Shot; Three Arrested

On Sunday morning at The Rac/Ameripark youth baseball complex in Katy, Texas, a coach leading a pregame prayer was struck in the shoulder by a stray round and immediately helped shepherd children to safety; he was airlifted to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and later released. Video and eyewitnesses reported at least a dozen shots, bullets striking light poles and nearby coaches, and players and parents running for cover; one bystander used a belt to stem the coach’s bleeding. The Waller County Sheriff’s Office said three men were firing from a nearby pasture about 600–700 yards away in what officers described as recreational shooting, and investigators allege multiple rounds traveled toward the fields. Police arrested Mahmood Abdelsalam Rababah, 23, Ahmad Mawed, 21, and Mustafa Mohammad Matalgah, 27, charging each with felony deadly conduct with a firearm and setting bond at $100,000 apiece. Community leaders and field owners said they were shocked and pledged enhanced security for future tournaments, and some families said they will not return to the venue.
