Nickel Boys Wins Best Picture at NSFC Awards

The National Society of Film Critics has awarded RaMell Ross's film 'Nickel Boys' the Best Picture honor, recognizing its poignant portrayal of life at a corrupt Florida reform school in the 1960s. The film also secured the Best Cinematography prize for Jomo Fray, while Ross was a runner-up for Best Director, which went to Payal Kapadia for 'All We Imagine as Light'. In acting categories, Marianne Jean-Baptiste won Best Actress for her role in 'Hard Truths', marking a significant achievement as only the second Black actress to receive this award in the NSFC's history. Other acting winners included Colman Domingo for Best Actor in 'Sing Sing' and Kieran Culkin for Best Supporting Actor in 'A Real Pain'. Critics from over 60 outlets participated in the voting process, underscoring the NSFC's esteemed standing in the film community. The results reflect a mix of both established and up-and-coming filmmakers and actors, highlighting the diversity of talent in contemporary cinema.
