DHL Opens Dual-Certified Cold Chain Facility Malaysia Enhancing APAC Pharma Logistics
DHL Global Forwarding has expanded its life sciences and healthcare logistics capabilities in Asia Pacific by opening a new dual-certified cold chain facility at Kuala Lumpur International Airport's Free Commercial Zone. The 38,000-square-foot site is the first at KLIA to offer storage certified for both 15–25°C and 2–8°C, and holds both DHL's Air GxP certification and IATA's CEIV Pharma certification, ensuring compliance with stringent pharmaceutical standards. The facility features advanced infrastructure including secure storage cages, automated real-time environmental monitoring, and reefer truck transfers that maintain cold chain integrity from pick-up to delivery, minimizing third-party handling. Designed with sustainability in mind, it incorporates energy-efficient compressors and environmentally friendly refrigerants. Malaysia's strategic location and the growing Asia Pacific healthcare logistics market, projected to reach $29.5 billion by 2030, position the facility as a key regional hub supporting pharmaceutical innovation, manufacturing, and distribution. DHL currently operates a network of 37 Air GxP-certified and 12 IATA CEIV Pharma-certified stations in the region and continues investing heavily in life sciences infrastructure as part of its Strategy 2030 growth plan.
