Orange County Issues Corrected Sample Ballots for 88,972 Voters

Nearly 90,000 sample ballots for the upcoming Special General Election in Orange County's House District 40 contained a printing error that listed Travaris McCurdy as the Democratic candidate instead of the certified nominee RaShon Young, who won the Democratic primary. The mistake originated during the artwork creation process within the Orange County Supervisor of Elections office, which has taken full responsibility and is mailing a 'Notice of Printing Error' along with a corrected sample ballot to all affected voters before early voting begins on August 23. This error only impacted sample ballots sent to voters who did not request vote-by-mail ballots; all official vote-by-mail and in-person ballots correctly list RaShon Young, who will face Republican Tuan Le in the September 2 election. Supervisor of Elections Karen Castor Dentel and her team acted quickly to address the issue and are implementing improved proofing measures to prevent similar mistakes in the future. The special election is necessary following the resignation of Democrat LaVon Bracy Davis, who is running for a state Senate seat. Early voting is scheduled from August 23 to 31 at various locations, with election day on September 2.
