25 Films Added to National Film Registry
The National Film Registry has added 25 new titles to its collection, bringing the total to 900 films recognized for their cultural, historic, or aesthetic significance. Notable inclusions this year are 'The Texas Chain Saw Massacre' (1974), 'The Social Network' (2010), 'Beverly Hills Cop' (1984), and 'Dirty Dancing' (1987), reflecting a diverse range of genres and eras in filmmaking. The selection process saw over 6,700 nominations from the public, with the final choices highlighting both mainstream classics and lesser-known works. Among the oldest films included is 'Annabelle Serpentine Dance' (1895), while the latest addition showcases the rise of social media through 'The Social Network'. A special honoring the new entries will be broadcast by Turner Classic Movies on December 18. Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden emphasizes the importance of preserving America's film heritage through this annual recognition.
