The popular BBC series Death in Paradise is set to air a Christmas special featuring Don Gilet as the new lead detective, DI Mervin Wilson, following Ralf Little's departure after five successful seasons. Gilet's character faces a challenging introduction to the island of Saint Marie, as he is initially disliked and struggles with the local pace of life, which contrasts sharply with his London background. Despite his desire to leave the island for a 'kind of' holiday, he is pulled into a complex murder case involving three men dressed as Santa Claus, all shot simultaneously. Gilet described his character as impatient and unwilling to tolerate inefficiency, which may create friction with his colleagues. This shift in dynamics is expected to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved series, which has captured audiences globally since its debut in 2011. The Christmas special is scheduled to air on December 22.
