The investigation into the suspected murder of eight-year-old Kyran Durnin has intensified, with Gardaí expanding their search from his former family home in Dundalk, Co Louth, to the surrounding wasteland. Kyran, missing since August 2024, is presumed dead, with the last verifiable sighting dating back to mid-2022 when he was removed from school. Tusla, Ireland's Child and Family Agency, had flagged concerns about Kyran to authorities in August and is conducting an internal review of its engagements with his family. Gardaí have taken possession of the former Durnin home, now occupied by unrelated tenants, and are working with Tusla in the investigation. Minister for Justice Helen McEntee has promised accountability for any failures in protecting Kyran, emphasizing the need to understand how he remained missing for two years. The search continues in hopes of finding evidence to explain Kyran's disappearance.
