Appalachian State Wins Season Opener 34-11 Over Charlotte

Appalachian State opened their football season with a strong 34-11 victory over Charlotte in the Duke’s Mayo Classic at Bank of America Stadium. New starting quarterback AJ Swann had an impressive debut, completing 31 of 46 passes for 368 yards and three touchdowns without interceptions, setting a record for most passing yards by an App State quarterback in their debut. Running back Rashod Dubinion contributed significantly with 111 rushing yards and a touchdown. The Mountaineers' offense amassed 586 total yards, while their defense limited Charlotte to just 218 yards and forced multiple turnovers. Charlotte, under first-time head coach Dowell Loggains and featuring 57 newcomers, managed an early 3-0 lead but could not sustain it against a balanced Appalachian State team.
