Bethune-Cookman Sole HBCU Advances NCAA 2025 Baseball Tournament

Bethune-Cookman University (BCU) clinched its first SWAC baseball title and secured a spot in the 2025 NCAA Tournament, marking its return to postseason play since 2017 and representing the only HBCU in this year’s tournament. The Wildcats achieved the championship with dramatic walk-off victories, including a decisive three-run home run by Andrey Martinez in the final against Florida A&M. BCU enters the Tallahassee Regional as the fourth seed, joining host and No. 9 overall seed Florida State, Mississippi State, and Northeastern, with their opening game set against FSU, a team they narrowly lost to earlier in the season. Florida State is making its 61st postseason appearance and is hosting a regional for the 37th time, while Mississippi State and Miami also return to NCAA play, with Miami facing Alabama in the Hattiesburg Regional. The SEC set a record with 13 teams in the tournament field. The Tallahassee Regional winner will advance to face the Corvallis Regional champion for a College World Series berth.
