No Charges for New Mexico Police in April 2023 Fatal Shooting

In April 2023, Farmington police officers in New Mexico, responded to a domestic violence call at the wrong address and fatally shot homeowner Robert Dotson 12 times. Robert's wife, Kimberly Dotson, also fired at the officers who returned fire. The New Mexico Department of Justice (NMDOJ) determined that the officers' use of force was 'appropriate and consistent with general police practice.' An independent assessment by Professor Seth W. Stoughton concluded that the officers' use of force was not excessive and was in line with general police practices.
