NBC Pilots Wordle Game Show with Savannah Guthrie

A UK-shot pilot of a television adaptation of the New York Times’ viral puzzle Wordle is being used by NBC to decide whether the project will be ordered to series. "Today" co-host Savannah Guthrie has been tapped to host, and Jimmy Fallon’s Electric Hot Dog banner is producing, with Fallon serving as an executive producer alongside Universal Television Alternative Studio and the New York Times. Wordle was created by Josh Wardle in 2021 and acquired by the Times in 2022; it was played 5.3 billion times in 2024. The show will build on Wordle’s core mechanic of guessing a five-letter word in six tries using colored-tile, colored-feedback tiles. Specific gameplay changes for TV, a series premiere date, and whether NBC will pick up the show have not been disclosed.
