Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan has issued show-cause notices to officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Public Works Department (PWD) for failing to submit required safety reports on bridges along highways. These notices were prompted by a lack of responsiveness to earlier instructions regarding the stability and safety of crucial infrastructure. The DC emphasized that the safety of highways, which accommodate heavy traffic, is non-negotiable and expressed dissatisfaction with the delays, particularly concerning the stalled Kuloor bridge project. Officials were ordered to submit their reports within 24 hours following the meeting, where concerns over bridge safety were discussed. This action reflects ongoing issues with infrastructure management in the region, which has also seen recent rain-induced challenges affecting road conditions and rail services.
