6-Year-Old Dies After Stepfather's Alleged Assault

Six-year-old Jathan Escobar has died after being brutally beaten with a baseball bat by his stepfather, Abdulrahim Sulaiman, in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Jathan was declared brain dead and taken off life support on Wednesday, following the attack on September 23, which also left his mother and four-year-old brother injured but alive. Sulaiman has been charged with murder, along with several other counts, and his bond has been set at $10 million. The mother reported that Sulaiman had a history of violence and substance abuse, including smoking PCP, and had threatened her and the children in the past. Despite multiple reports to child services regarding Sulaiman's behavior, the family feels that the system failed to protect them. Jathan's family has chosen to honor his memory through organ donation, emphasizing the tragedy of his death in light of the violence he suffered.
