South Carolina Man Charged with Murder

Sheridan Dirk Fogle, a 54-year-old man from Orangeburg, South Carolina, has been charged with the murder of his former roommate, Penni Whiteside, after her remains were discovered buried under a fire pit in Myrtle Beach. Whiteside, who was 51 at the time of her disappearance in May 2022, had been living with Fogle when she was last seen. Following neighbor testimonies indicating that she might be buried in the backyard, police obtained a search warrant and located her remains on June 12, 2024. Fogle was arrested on August 29, 2024, and is currently held without bail, with court dates scheduled for October and December. The Myrtle Beach Police Department has expressed condolences for the victim's family, calling the incident a 'senseless crime of violence.' The investigation into the cause of death is ongoing.
