Newly released police bodycam footage shows Lumberton Mayor Gina LaPlaca's arrest for allegedly driving under the influence with her young son in the car on March 17. The footage displays LaPlaca stumbling, slurring her speech, and admitting to drinking vodka as officers conduct field sobriety tests. Police reports indicate that a witness saw her driving erratically and nearly hitting a utility pole, prompting a 911 call. Officers found a water bottle containing alcohol and a small liquor bottle in her vehicle. Following the arrest, calls for her resignation have arisen from residents and township committee members, though legally the committee cannot remove her from office. LaPlaca's husband stated that she is seeking treatment for addiction.
