In response to potential terrorist threats during the Kanwar Yatra, the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has been deployed in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh, particularly at the critical Shiv Chowk intersection. SSP Abhishek Singh emphasized the heightened risk during major religious events and confirmed that specialized ATS commandos, equipped with automatic weapons, have taken charge of security along the route, which is expected to see around 2 crore devotees this year. Moreover, the local administration has bolstered security measures by installing over 2,000 CCTV cameras and employing drone surveillance to monitor the extensive 240-kilometer route. This year’s Kanwar Yatra began on July 22 and culminates on August 2, coinciding with the auspicious occasion of Shivratri. The deployment follows previous incidents of violence and vandalism, underscoring the necessity for enhanced vigilance. Overall, comprehensive security arrangements are being instituted to ensure a safe pilgrimage for all participants.
