49ers Rule Out Purdy, Pearsall, Jennings

San Francisco, now 3-1, lost 26-21 to Jacksonville in Week 4 as Brock Purdy went 22-for-38 for 309 yards with two TDs, two INTs and a fumble. The team has since ruled Purdy out for Thursday Night Football at the Los Angeles Rams after toe soreness flared and he did not practice this week; backup Mac Jones will make his third start after going 53-of-80 for 563 yards with four TDs and one INT in two previous relief appearances. Starting receivers Ricky Pearsall (knee) and Jauan Jennings (ankle, ribs) have been sidelined for the short week, and the 49ers also remain without tight end George Kittle (IR) and defensive end Nick Bosa, with Jordan Watkins and others listed out. That forces Kendrick Bourne, Demarcus Robinson and tight end Jake Tonges into larger offensive roles and is expected to increase reliance on Christian McCaffrey and the run game against a healthy Rams defense. Purdy has missed multiple games recently but is not on IR and could be available when the team gets a longer recovery window.
