Abdullah's Government Marks New Era in J&K

Omar Abdullah, the newly sworn-in Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, has issued a directive to prevent the creation of 'green corridors' or traffic stoppages for his movements, prioritizing public convenience over protocol. He instructed the Director General of J&K Police to minimize public inconvenience and reduce the use of sirens and aggressive gestures during his travel. Abdullah emphasized that his cabinet should adopt a people-friendly approach, reflecting a commitment to serve rather than inconvenience citizens. This decision comes as Abdullah resumes leadership, marking the first elected government in J&K since its reorganization as a Union Territory in 2019. The assembly elections, in which Abdullah's party won a majority with support from independent MLAs, were the first since the abrogation of Article 370. Abdullah's directive was his first order after taking office, aiming to set a precedent of accessibility and humility for his administration.
