Sharon McDonough Appointed Tucson Fire Chief

Sharon McDonough has been appointed as the new chief of the Tucson Fire Department, a position she will assume officially on June 2, 2025, following the retirement of Chief Chuck Ryan. McDonough, who has a 34-year career with the city, becomes the first woman to serve as a chief officer in the department. Previously, she directed the Public Safety Communications Department, where she successfully managed the city's 911 and 311 systems. Tucson Mayor Regina Romero praised McDonough's deep roots in the community and her extensive experience in progressing from firefighter to various leadership roles. McDonough expressed her commitment to addressing the department's resource challenges and improving firefighter well-being. Mike Garcia will serve as the interim director of the Public Safety Communications Department in her stead.
