In Wisconsin, scammers impersonate HR representatives from real companies like Amazon and WBD Global Streaming, using various aliases to contact victims via WhatsApp, offering fake jobs, and then requesting personal and banking information, which can lead to identity theft. Some scams also involve sending fraudulent checks to victims to purchase equipment, followed by demands for repayment of overpaid amounts. Additionally, the BBB warns about scammers posing as Publishers Clearing House representatives, calling residents to claim prize winnings but asking for fees via gift cards, which should never be paid. These alerts emphasize the importance of verifying job offers and being cautious about sharing personal or financial information to avoid falling victim to these sophisticated scams.
