Graham Potter Appointed Sweden Head Coach Until March 2026

Graham Potter has been appointed Sweden's head coach on an initial short-term deal running until March 2026 to salvage their 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign. He replaces Jon Dahl Tomasson after Sweden's poor start — they sit bottom of Group B with one point from four games and are no longer in contention for automatic qualification. Potter will take charge of Sweden's final two qualifiers next month, away to Switzerland and then at home to Slovenia, and Sweden could still reach the March playoffs via their Nations League ranking. The contract will be extended to cover any playoffs and the finals should Sweden qualify. Potter was sacked by West Ham less than a month ago and returns to a country where he built his reputation during seven years with Östersunds FK after spells in the Premier League with Brighton, Chelsea and West Ham. He inherits a squad featuring Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyökeres and said he was "humbled" and inspired to create the conditions to take Sweden to the World Cup.
