Apple Revises EU App Store Policies
Apple has revised its App Store policies in the European Union to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA), allowing app developers to communicate with customers and promote offers outside their apps. Developers can now link to alternative marketplaces, websites, or other apps directly within their applications, removing previous restrictions. Apple introduced new fees: a 5% acquisition fee for new users and a 10% store services fee for sales made within the first 12 months, replacing the prior reduced commission structure. These changes aim to align with EU regulations that criticized Apple's restrictive business practices. Apple’s amendments are a response to the European Commission's allegations of anti-competitive behavior and mark the first enforcement actions under the DMA.
