Man Charged with Murder of Diondre Overton
Jeremiah Diago Blanks, a 20-year-old man, has been arrested in Michigan and charged with first-degree murder for the fatal shooting of former Clemson wide receiver Diondre Overton, who was killed at a gathering in Greensboro, North Carolina, on September 7. The Guilford County Sheriff's Office announced that Blanks was apprehended with assistance from the U.S. Marshals Service and is currently held in the Oakland County Jail awaiting extradition. Overton, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene after deputies responded to reports of a loud party. He played for Clemson from 2016 to 2019, contributing to national championship teams in 2016 and 2018. The investigation is ongoing, with no motive for the shooting disclosed yet. Clemson coach Dabo Swinney honored Overton’s memory during a recent game, describing him as a beloved teammate.
