Richard Joseph Gonzales, 34, was arrested in Palm Springs after calling police to report an assault, only to be identified as a suspect in a stabbing that occurred earlier the same day. Police responded to a distress call at 5:41 AM from a man in the 400 block of E. Arenas Road, who was found with significant injuries consistent with a stabbing. Gonzales later contacted police claiming he was a victim of an assault, but officers determined he was the suspect and arrested him around 1:40 PM. He is expected to face a felony charge of attempted murder during his arraignment at the Larson Justice Center in Indio. Meanwhile, in a separate incident in Ilfracombe, James Lammas, 55, has been charged with attempted murder after a fight left a man in his 30s with knife wounds to the neck and face. Lammas is set to appear before Exeter Magistrates’ Court following the assault reported on September 10.
