Officer, civilian hospitalized after crash in Warren

A Warren police officer and a woman sustained minor injuries after a crash near the intersection of Nine Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue in Warren, Michigan. The incident occurred as the officer, leaving a shopping plaza after a completed traffic stop, attempted a left turn onto Nine Mile Road. Two eastbound vehicles, including a dump truck, had stopped to let the officer exit, but a third vehicle in the turn lane collided with the police car, with visibility hindered by the dump truck. At the time of the crash, the officer’s lights and sirens were not on, as he was not responding to an emergency. Both individuals were transported to local hospitals, and police reviewed security footage, concluding the crash appeared to be a routine accident. The Warren Police Department’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit is investigating due to the involvement of an on-duty officer.
