Disney has cast 17-year-old Catherine Laga'aia from Sydney, Australia, as the titular character in the live-action remake of 'Moana,' alongside Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, who will reprise his role as Maui. The film, which celebrates Pacific Island culture and traditions, is set to be released on July 10, 2026. Other cast members include John Tui as Chief Tui, Frankie Adams as Sina, and Rena Owen as Gramma Tala. Catherine expressed her excitement and honor to represent Samoa and young girls who look like her. Directed by Thomas Kail, the production will begin this summer with Auli'i Cravalho, the original voice of Moana, serving as an executive producer.
