Gunman Kills Neighbor, Ambushes PA Troopers in Shootout

In Susquehanna County, Pennsylvania, Carmine Faino, 61, fatally shot his neighbor Lori Wasko, 57, before ambushing responding state troopers with a semi-automatic rifle, firing dozens of rounds. Troopers Joseph Perechinsky and William Jenkins were shot but survived due to their ballistic vests and quick actions, including Perechinsky's command to block the roadway with a tractor-trailer to protect others. An EMT responding to the scene was also injured after veering off the road amid the gunfire. Faino was ultimately killed by police after a standoff near a propane tank that caused additional safety concerns. Authorities have not disclosed a motive, noting no prior interaction between Faino and Wasko. The incident marks the fifth and sixth troopers shot in the line of duty in the state this year and is under investigation by state police and local officials.
