Volvo and Mazda Announce Hybrid and Electric Plans

Volvo is advancing its electrification strategy with plans to launch three new electric vehicles by 2026, including the EX60, despite not fully transitioning to electric by 2030 as earlier intended. Volvo will discontinue developing new gas engines, focusing on improving plug-in hybrids and debuting new electric architectures. Meanwhile, Mazda is set to introduce the next-generation CX-5 with a hybrid powertrain in the third quarter of 2025. This new CX-5 will feature design updates and will compete with other hybrid SUVs like the Toyota RAV4 and Hyundai Tucson. The CX-5 will retain Mazda's signature design elements, while incorporating advanced technologies and a modern interior. Both automakers are responding to consumer demand by enhancing their hybrid and electric vehicle offerings.
