Remains Exhumed in Search for Joe Lynskey
The Independent Commission for the Location of Victims' Remains (ICLVR) has exhumed remains from a grave in Annyalla, County Monaghan, as part of the search for Joe Lynskey, one of the 'Disappeared' victims of the Northern Ireland Troubles. Lynskey, a former Cistercian monk who joined the IRA, was abducted and murdered in 1972, with the ICLVR only confirming his status as a Disappeared in 2010. The commission received information about suspicious activities at the grave site that match the timeframe of Lynskey's disappearance. The remains of more than one person were discovered, and the identification process is expected to take time. Of the 16 individuals classified as Disappeared, 13 have been recovered to date. This exhumation continues the ongoing efforts to locate the remaining victims from this tragic period.
