Front Range Agencies Start Joint Registration Crackdown

Eight law enforcement agencies across Colorado's Front Range, including Denver, Aurora, and Colorado Springs, are launching a joint enforcement operation targeting expired vehicle registrations and temporary license plates from April 20 to April 26, with Denver's effort lasting through May 20. This is Denver's fourth focused enforcement period since July 2024 and the second multi-agency operation, following a similar September 2024 effort that resulted in hundreds of citations, including 339 issued by Denver officers and 351 by Colorado Springs Police. Drivers with expired registrations face a $95 fine, with a 30-day grace period for vehicle registrations but none for temporary plates. These operations are exceptions to Denver's 'low-level traffic stops policy,' which typically deprioritizes such stops except during designated enforcement windows. Authorities emphasize the importance of compliance due to persistent problems with outdated tags and urge residents to renew registrations online or at DMV kiosks. The initiative responds to community concerns about unregistered vehicles while maintaining a focus on more serious traffic violations.
