Ex-Rugby Player Maredudd Francis Jailed After 140mph Drug Chase

Maredudd Francis, a former rugby player, was sentenced to four years and four months in prison after pleading guilty to multiple charges, including dangerous driving and possession of drugs with intent to supply. The incident occurred on September 29, 2024, when police attempted to stop Francis' grey BMW on the M56 motorway, leading to a high-speed chase where he reached speeds of 139mph. Francis was seen throwing packages of drugs from the car window during the pursuit, which ended when he crashed into another vehicle, injuring its occupants. Following his arrest, police discovered £320,000 worth of cocaine and cannabis at his home in Wrexham. Prosecutors noted that Francis was under the influence of drugs during the incident, as evidenced by his bloodshot eyes and the strong smell of cannabis.
