Premier League Hits Record £3bn Summer Spending on Transfer Deadline Day
Premier League clubs have set a new record by surpassing £3 billion in spending during the summer transfer window, driven largely by Liverpool's British record £125 million acquisition of Alexander Isak from Newcastle. This year's spending significantly exceeds the previous summer's £1.96 billion and surpasses the combined spending of Bundesliga, La Liga, Ligue 1, and Serie A clubs. Liverpool broke their own record after also spending £116 million on Florian Wirtz earlier this year, with their total summer outlay reaching £415 million, more than any other European club. Other notable deadline day deals included Crystal Palace's Marc Guehi moving to Liverpool for £35 million, Newcastle signing Yoane Wissa for £55 million, and Tottenham securing Randal Kolo Muani on loan from PSG. Arsenal strengthened their defense with Piero Hincapie on loan, while Manchester United and Manchester City made key goalkeeper signings. Despite the high spending, some deals, such as Guehi's initial move, faced last-minute complications, highlighting the intense and competitive nature of this record-breaking transfer window.
