Storm Bert Causes Major Flooding in South Wales

Storm Bert has caused catastrophic flooding in South Wales, leading to a major incident declaration as over 100 properties are affected, particularly in Pontypridd where the River Taff has burst its banks. Heavy rainfall has resulted in more than 80% of November's average rainfall falling within 48 hours, prompting widespread emergency responses, including the establishment of rest centres for those displaced. Chris Bryant, MP for Rhondda and Ogmore, described the flooding as unprecedented, expressing deep concern for the affected communities. The storm has also led to landslides, necessitating rescues, including ten people from a house in Llanarmon Dyffryn Ceiriog. Authorities have issued numerous flood warnings across the UK, with over 400 alerts currently in place. Local parks and events, including London's Winter Wonderland, have been closed due to safety concerns arising from the severe weather.
