CommBank Completes Largest AWS Data Migration in Southern Hemisphere

The Commonwealth Bank of Australia (CommBank) has completed a major migration of its entire data platform to Amazon Web Services (AWS), a project finished nine months ahead of schedule and involving the phased transfer and testing of over 61,000 data pipelines. This migration enables CommBank to enhance its use of artificial intelligence, powering around 55 million daily decisions through more than 2,000 AI models analyzing approximately 157 billion data points, making it one of Australia's largest corporate AI users. The move aims to simplify CommBank's technology infrastructure, reduce its on-premises data center footprint, and scale operations on demand, supporting more personalized customer and employee experiences via AI and agentic AI integration. The extended five-year partnership with AWS further solidifies AWS as CommBank's preferred cloud provider, facilitating rapid development of AI-driven services such as the CommBiz Gen AI messaging platform that accelerates business banking transactions. CommBank's collaboration with HCLTech was instrumental in delivering this accelerated migration without compromising data integrity or system performance.
