New York Expands Aid for 9/11 Victim Families Amid Rising Health Cases

On the 24th anniversary of the September 11 attacks, New York has taken significant steps to honor the victims and support their families. Governor Kathy Hochul signed new legislation to expand aid for families affected by 9/11, including reviving the September 11 Worker Protection Task Force, streamlining benefits application processes, and granting extra civil service exam points to children and siblings of sanitation workers who died from 9/11-related illnesses. Families gathered for solemn ceremonies at the 9/11 Memorial in Lower Manhattan, where moments of silence were observed and names of the deceased were read aloud, accompanied by the Tribute in Light illuminating the skyline. In addition, the New York Blood Center is encouraging residents to participate in a National Day of Service and Remembrance by donating blood or volunteering to help meet critical blood supply needs.
