Dave Stewart Announces Musical Film Ebony McQueen

Dave Stewart, co-founder of Eurythmics, is set to bring his semi-autobiographical musical film 'Ebony McQueen' to life, directed by Shekhar Kapur and featuring music composed by A.R. Rahman. The film, inspired by Stewart's teenage years in 1960s and 70s North East England, follows the story of Charlie McGarvey, whose dreams of becoming a professional footballer are shattered by a knee injury, leading him to discover the transformative power of music. Production will take place in Sunderland, Stewart's hometown, with filming expected to commence in spring 2024. The screenplay, co-written by Stewart and others, draws from his 2022 album of the same name and aims to capture the cultural upheaval of the era. Sharon D. Clarke is set to star as the titular character, a bluesy figure who influences Stewart's journey into music. The project promises a vibrant musical exploration of personal and societal challenges, with production supported by a notable team of award-winning filmmakers.
