Boeing Layoffs Affect Thousands Amid Financial Challenges

Boeing has announced significant layoffs across the United States, aiming to cut 10% of its workforce due to financial and regulatory challenges. This includes 692 job cuts in Missouri, primarily affecting engineers, mechanics, and human resources staff in the St. Louis area. Nationwide, Boeing plans to reduce its workforce by approximately 17,000, with over 2,199 layoffs already occurring in Washington state. The layoffs are partly due to delays in the 777X aircraft production and have been exacerbated by a recent machinists' strike. Affected employees will receive severance pay, career transition assistance, and health benefits for up to three months. Boeing's financial issues date back to the 737 Max crashes and subsequent regulatory scrutiny.
